There are a lot of conflicting dates for Thomas. His certificate of death stated he was born in 1881. However, he was listed in the 1870 census of Harnett County , his age was given as 10; this would have been 1860. His year of birth was given as 1867 in the 1900 census of Johnston County. Thomas married Annie Bell Caudle on 23 Feb 1929 in Johnson County his age was given as 63 ; Annie's age was 50. He was living in Banner Township in 1910.
