Some of my information comes from Lucy Jane Tutor Hobby (1816-1900), Mary Eva Tutor Churchill (1860-1934) and William Owen Tutor III (b.1891). Lucy was one of William Owen Tutor's daughters. She lived on his seven hundred and eighty-one acre plantation for sixty years. Thirty four of those sixty years were during his lifetime. Lucy raised Mary Tutor. Mary lived with her aunt Lucy for seventeen years. Mary was the orphaned daughter of Owen Young Tutor and Lucinda Dennis. Lucy Jane Tutor Hobby told many of the stories about her father and events in North Carolina to her niece, Mary Eva Tutor Churchill, and to her nephew, Marshall A. Tutor (1846-1928). She told about her father's voyage from Wales and about his ordeals in Virginia and North Carolina. Marshall Tutor was one of Mary's older brothers. Mary passed on the stories, recounted to her by her aunt, to her children and grandchildren. William Owen Tutor III was the son of Alfred "Ap" Young Tutor (1853-1940)and the grandson of William Madison Tutor (1807-1892). He married Flowery J. Baker and they lived on the old William Madison Tutor property and were buried in the family cemetery on this property. During his lifetime, "Ap" Tutor owned many of the buildings in Duncan, North Carolina. William "Willie" Owen Tutor III related the stories about William Owen Tutor's trips across the Atlantic Ocean from Wales. He also told how William Owen Tutor drowned in a spring branch[Pat Moulton]

I told (I think) about the will that Willie Tutor had that disappeared. It was very interesting. Grandpa thought it was funny that he had left a sow and her pigs to one person and a cow and her calf to another. He wondered how the man knew they'd have young when he died. He also left right much land as I remember and his last bequest was to his youngest son. He left him the sum of $1 with the stipulation that it be used to buy a length of rope to hang his Irish wife. I guess he didn't like her much.
