Notes |
- [Richard Richardson]
"...Sallie Elizabeth Denning was my Mother in Law.
I have long been fascinated by the Matthews since years ago my mother in law told me of Acril who was a farmer in Harnett Co. He went barefoot most of the time. One day he was crossing a fence and there lay a Copperhead snake. He promptly stomped the snake to death with his bare foot and said to the snake"That'll teach you, you s.o.b.
Acril had one of his sons who served in The Late Unpleasantness in Co. E 47th NCT. He was a courier for General J. J. Pettigrew at Gettysburg. He was wounded and captured at Gettysburg. He lost his arm below the elbow. Another son Josiah who served in Co. F 15th NCT. He was captured etc."
