Hi Bob,
My cousin has just sent me some info from your Baker Family Webpage on Henry
Urquhart and dau. Margaret Urquhart who marr. Daniel Shaw in the Buie's Creek
area.
My antecedent is Norman Urquhart who was marr. to Janet Bethune. He and a
Henry Urquhart (who we have been told was Margaret's father) received land
grants right next to each other on the same day in 1774.
Now, we have a world of confusion, and here's why:
1. Our family history says that Henry and Norman came to N.C. from the Isle
of Skye in Scotland together with another brother named Alexander. We know
that Henry and Norman obtained their first land grants in N.C. right next to
each other on Buie's Creek in 1774, so there surely must be a connection.
2. If the Henry you list as Margaret's father was really born in VA that
shoots that apart.
I'm so curious about where your information on Henry Urquhart, father of
Margaret Urquhart who marr. Daniel Shaw, came from. Could you please give me
a reference?? We could really use something that would confirm his birth in
Virginia about 1766, if that is the case.
We really hate to be percolating along with wrong info, and we are just about
certain we're talking about brothers, Norman and Henry. Our Norman had a
daughter named Margaret, also, but she married after the family left N.C. in
1818 to come to Alabama. She married a man named John Joyce in Montgomery
Co., AL. The fact that these two families lived right next to each other on
Buie's Creek and had children with all the same names makes it almost
impossible that their proximity was a coincidence.
My cousin, Jean Wright, in Monroeville, AL and I (Joy Klotz in Mobile, AL)
would really appreciate any help you might be able to give us. We spent a
week up in the Harnett Co./Cumberland Co. area last October looking for
family clues. Thanks in advance for anyone you might put us in touch with,
