Thursday, January 09, 2003
The flags fly at half mast and black drapes cover the front door at Coats-Grove Fire and Rescue as they mourn for the loss of one of their own.
Terry Carroll of No. 4 Dunn Street, Coats, suffered a heart attack while on a medical call Friday morning, Dec. 27.
He was taken to Good Hope Hospital and later transferred to Duke Medical Center, where he died late Tuesday night.
Mr. Carroll was born Sept. 3, 1951, in Harnett County to Helen Godwin Carroll of Coats and the late Tommy Young Carroll. He was a truck driver for Searcey Mulch Company.
Mr. Carroll rejoined the department in July 1996, where he served actively as a volunteer firefighter, traffic controller and medical responder. He had an additional year of prior service with the department prior to 1996.
The department will be out of service until after the memorial service and burial, and coverage will be provided from the Coats station by neighboring department during this time.
Mr. Carroll was 51 and survived by his wife, Donna Gail Norris Carroll; a daughter, Amy Gail Carroll of Coats; a son, Terry Wayne Carroll of Coats; his mother, Helen Godwin Carroll of Coats; a brother, Robbin Lynn Carroll of Coats; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Coats Baptist Church by the Rev. Jessey Mooney. Burial will follow in Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats and other times at the home of Helen G. Carroll, 76 Derrick Drive, Coats, and also at the home of Donna Gail, No. 4 Dunn Street, Coats.
