1880 Census Cumberland Co., Upper Little River
"... family 7 on page 1. The Census listing referenced is my greatgreatgrandfather- Hector "Tailor" McNeill (born 1799). He was married to Rebecca Cameron (not Jane McCormick- that Hector must be listed elsewhere in Census), who died before the 1880 Census. Hector Martin McNeill is the 38 year old son listed. He lost one leg below the knee at the battle of Plymouth, NC in the Civil War. The brother Malcom, 50 and single, was also slightly wounded in the war. Neither Hector M. nor Malcom ever married. Their brother, Neill Thomas McNeill, was killed at battle of First Gum Swamp, near Kinston. I am descended from their younger brother, Hugh Archie McNeill...."
