  Rev. Richard Sankey, and thirty-five families moved from Paxtang Pennsylvania to Buffaloe River, Prince Edward Co., Virginia in the summer of 1759. A series of Indian raids and massacres, which took the lives of fourteen members of his congregation was the main reason for the migration. On October 9, 1759 he purchased 400 acres adjacent to Robert Baker's. He was the author of The Petition of Sundry Inhabitants of Prince Edward County to the President and House of Delegates of Virginia dated October 11, 1776 praying for complete religious and civil liberty and pledging loyalty to the government of the United States.
