The following article was published in the November 2nd 1898 edition of the Wilmington Dispatch... Miss Jessie Murchison, the handsome an accomplished daughter of Colonel Kenneth M. Murchison will be married tomorrow (Thursday) in New York City to Mr. Shirley Carter, of Baltimore.
Colonel Murchison is too well known to need introduction. He is owner of some of the finest property in and around the city and makes Wilmington frequent visits.
The prospective groom is a leading young society man of Baltimore. It is said that they will take in Wilmington on their wedding tour.
The following article was published in the November 5th 1896 edition of the Wilmington Dispatch... A special dispatch from New York gives the following account of the Carter Murchison nuptials. ... "An
attractive home wedding today was that of Miss Jessie S. Murchison, daughter of Mr. Kenneth Murchison, to Shirley Carter, son of Mr. Richard Carter, of Baltimore. The ceremony was performed at the residence of the bride's father, 46 West 57th street...."The invitations were confined to relatives and intimate friends of both families. Four o'clock was the hour selected. Rev. Robert H. Paine, rector of Mount Calvary Church, Baltimore, performed the ceremony.... There was one maid of honor, the bride's sister, Mrs Marie Murchison.... Mr. Carter was attended by his brother, Mr Bernard Carter, as best man. The ushers were Mr. Julian Carter, a brother of the groom, and Mr. Julian Stuart Jones, both of Baltimore, and Mr. Henry C. Adams and Mr. Benjamin W. Morris, Jr., both of New York.
"Following the ceremony was a reception, after which Mr. and Mrs. Carter departed on a wedding journey. They will live on Charles street, Baltimore, where they have taken a house.
"The bride is the daughter of a well known Wall Street merchant. Mr. Carter is associated with his father in the practice of law, and is a member of the distinguished Virginian family of that name. He is equally well connected in Maryland. He is a noted athlete and has taken in various field games."
The bride is the daughter of Colonel Kenneth M. Murchison, the owner of the Orton, and other valuable east Carolina property, and she is the sister of Mrs. James Sprunt, of this city, and has many friends and relatives in this city. Mr. and Mrs. Carter will probably take in Wilmington on their tour.
