Gilchrist Girls Think Sisters Are Grand
I. J. Gilchrist, Harnett County farmer and his wife, Nannie, right, proudly pose with their 12 daughters, ranging from one to 24 years of age. The daughters, left to right, are: Yvonne, an airline stewardess; Elaine Gilchrist Wommack, only child married; Wonnie a registered nurse, Ina Mae; Clive Marie; Laverne, Dorothy Joyce, Peggy Jean, Wilma Fay, Maxine Lee, Brenda Breen and Lendra Gale, baby. Lendra, the 12th child, was born last December 12 at midnight--the 12 child on the 12th day of the 12th month at midnight. All except the three eldest live with their parents on the 132 acre farm Gilchrist owns, ten miles west of Lillington on the Johnsonville Road. Most every grade in Anderson Creek school has a Gilchrist girl enrolled, and all attend Sunday School and church regularly. Gilchrist grows tobacco, livestock, and garden vegetables and believes in living at home. Food is no problem. Gilchrist says there's always plenty of milk and butter. Mrs. Gilchrist can always pull another jar from her bountiful shelf of canned goods. As for the girls, they think sisters are fun. Photo by T. M. Stewart, Lillington.
