- [Pat Moulton]
What I know about Sam: His daughter Isley was married to George "Thon" Johnson when I knew her. She never had children and she and my father were very close. I have pictures of Sam, Isley etc.. I don't know if you want pictures. If you do, I'll try to find a way.
Most of the things that I heard about Sam came from Aunt Nolie.(Magnolia Arnold) who was Willie Tutor's sister. She said he was a good man, he worked hard and was faithful but he wouldn't go to church. Back then it was expected of you. He didn't explain, he just wouldn't go. When he lay dying, the preacher came to see him and said, "Sam, you know you're dying. Don't you think you should give your soul to God before you go?" Sam replied, "I've given the best part of my life to the Devil and now you want me to give the good lord the shucks?" He died and never said anything else about it.
He was 72 when my dad was born. He had a young wife and when she got pregnant people in the area said, "Now Sam, you know that ain't your baby." Sam said, "That's OK, it's caught in my trap."
