"... family 7 on page 1. The Census listing referenced is my greatgreatgrandfather- Hector "Tailor" McNeill (born 1799). He was married to Rebecca Cameron (not Jane McCormick- that Hector must be listed elsewhere in Census), who died before the 1880 Census. Hector Martin McNeill is the 38 year old son listed. He lost one leg below the knee at the battle of Plymouth, NC in the Civil War. The brother Malcom, 50 and single, was also slightly wounded in the war. Neither Hector M. nor Malcom ever married. Their brother, Neill Thomas McNeill, was killed at battle of First Gum Swamp, near Kinston. I am descended from their younger brother, Hugh Archie McNeill...."

John Cameron enlisted November 1, 1781 and served three months in Captain Neill McCranie's Co. Colonel Thomas Armstrong's NC Regiment , and enlisted in July 1782 and served four months in Captain John Mebane's Co. in the same regiment . He was allowed pension of $25.83 per year on September 4, 1832 for his service.
John married Jane Dobine on 24 Dec 1795 in Cumberland Co., North Carolina. Jane was born on 20 Mar 1774 in Cumberland Co., North Carolina; died after 1848 in Cumberland Co., North Carolina; was buried in Cameron Hll Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Johnsonville, Harnett Co., North Carolina.
