The home of W. H. Pegram in Durham, North Carolina was listed on North Carolina Registry of Historical places on November 29, 1979.

Pegram Hall was named after the family of William Howell Pegram who was the first professor of chemistry at old Trinity College which became Duke University. None of the daughters married and after retirement they moved back to their father's home, which was located on the present site of Pegram Hall and they devoted the rest of their lives to working on various projects at Duke and left their estates to Duke University.

One son, George Braxton Pegram, went on to become a noted physicist and head of the physics department at Columbia. He also became head of the Atomic Energy Commission under Dwight Eisenhower.

    Notes:

    [Nola Pegram Duffy]

    1790
William Pegram appears on the tax rolls of Warren Co., NC. Since all the other Pegrams of
Warren Co. are accounted for through the Will of Daniel Pegram, the ONLY father of William who is known to be alive at that time is indeed this John Pegram and he would be the right age. Wm. did have children on the 1790 census and later court records do reflect a Peter in Warren Co. who apparently died without issue since there are no Pegrams in the country that we can not otherwise account for.

I do want you to know that there is NO question that we are all descendants of George Pegram of Virginia.
